Борона БГШ-16 використовується для наступних видів робіт:
підготовка рілля до посівних робіт та обробки парів; весняне закриття вологи на полях; вичісування бур'янів на ниткоподібній стадії розвитку та знищення сходів бур'яну;закладення мінеральних добрив після внесення їх у ґрунт; вирівнювання полів та розпушування ґрунту для руйнування капілярів після основної обробки. Борона може експлуатуватися у всіх ґрунтово-кліматичних зонах, крім районів із значними кам'янистими включеннями. Вологість ґрунту має перевищувати 27%, а твердість ґрунту до 3,5 МПа.
Борона БГШ-16 агрегатується з тракторами потужністю від 300 к.с., оснащеними гідрофікованою причіпною системою. Має 8 шлейфів.
