Fertilizers

When is the best time to buy fertilizers in Ukraine?
January-February is the best window — lowest prices of the year, up to 15% cheaper than the April-May peak when spring top-dressing drives demand. The worst window is April 1–15, when nitrogen fertilizer demand peaks.
What is NPK?
NPK stands for the three primary plant nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). The numbers in a fertilizer name (e.g., NPK 16-16-16) show the percentage of each element. NPK fertilizers are used for base application before sowing.
Urea or ammonium nitrate: which to choose?
Urea is 14% cheaper per kg of nitrogen (~47.8 vs ~56.4 UAH/kg N) but must be incorporated into the soil within 4 hours or losses reach 15–25%. Ammonium nitrate is more expensive but works in cool spring conditions without incorporation. For intensive farms with equipment: urea with NBPT; for small farms: ammonium nitrate.
How much nitrogen does winter wheat need in Ukraine?
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy recommends 120–180 kg/ha of actual nitrogen across the season. Use 140–160 kg/ha in Steppe and Forest-Steppe, 160–180 kg/ha in Polissia where losses run higher on light soils. Subtract any autumn-applied nitrogen from these totals.
At what temperature should UAN-32 be applied?
The optimal air temperature for applying UAN-32 is 8–18°C. Below 5°C the liquid becomes viscous and sprays poorly; above 22°C ammonia volatilization exceeds 10%. Early-spring top-dressing on frozen-thawed soil tolerates 0–5°C.
Does winter wheat need sulfur in Ukraine?
Yes, especially on Polissia and Northern Forest-Steppe soils. Sulfur concentration in Ukrainian soils has dropped 40% over the past decade as industrial emissions fell. Apply 15–25 kg/ha of actual sulfur via ammonium sulfate or urea-sulfate blends.
How do you store mineral fertilizers?
Store in a dry, ventilated space away from moisture, at or below +30°C. Ammonium nitrate must be kept apart from diesel and organic matter, with a Derzhprodspozhyvsluzhba permit (classified as an explosive precursor). UAN-32 requires HDPE tanks or stationary epoxy-lined steel tanks.
Is foliar feeding effective?
Yes, for correcting micronutrient deficiencies (boron, zinc, manganese) and fast nitrogen top-dressing at critical stages. Foliar feeding does not replace root uptake but complements it — providing up to 20% of macronutrient uptake and 60–80% of micronutrient uptake.
How much do fertilizers cost in Ukraine in April 2026?
As of April 2026 (EXW ex-works): urea 22,000 UAH/t, ammonium nitrate N33 19,400 UAH/t, UAN-32 17,800 UAH/t, NPK 16-16-16 26,400 UAH/t, NPK 12-11-18 (YaraMila) 28,400–31,200 UAH/t. Per kg of actual nitrogen, urea is cheapest at ~47.8 UAH/kg N.
When do you apply micronutrients to sunflower?
The optimal window is the 4–8 true-leaf stage (BBCH 14–18). At this point sunflower needs boron most, since boron drives pollination and head formation. Apply 150–250 g/ha of boron as boric acid or specialized products (YaraVita Boron).
Ukrainian-made fertilizers vs imported — which is better?
It's a myth that imported is always better. Ukrainian manufacturers (Rivneazot, Sumykhimprom) produce to EU standards with lower logistics costs. Quality depends on the specific product and batch, not the country of origin. On ADAM every vendor publishes certificates of analysis — compare by specs, not by flag.
When should I start spring top-dressing of winter wheat?
Start when average soil temperature at 5 cm depth exceeds 5 °C for 3–5 consecutive days. Typically: Steppe — late Feb to early March, Forest-Steppe — first decade of March, Polissia — second decade of March. Split application (60/40 or 70/30) improves nitrogen-use efficiency.
Ammonium nitrate, urea, or UAN — which to choose for nitrogen top-dressing?
Ammonium nitrate — fast-acting, best for early spring top-dressing on cold soil. Urea — cheaper per kg of nitrogen but must be incorporated within 4 hours (15–25% loss if surface-applied). UAN-32 — uniform spreader application, optimal on large Steppe fields.
Is potassium needed on chernozem?
On classic chernozem with exchangeable potassium above 150 mg/kg — typically not needed for grain crops. For sunflower, rapeseed, soybean, vegetables — yes, potassium matters even on chernozem. Run a soil test every 3–5 years; decide on data, not assumptions.
Micronutrients Zn, B, Mn — when and how much to apply?
Zinc (Zn) — critical for corn, 0.5–1.5 kg/ha (element) at 4–6 leaf stage. Boron (B) — mandatory for sunflower + rapeseed, 0.2–0.5 kg/ha at bud stage. Manganese (Mn) — for wheat on low-pH soils, 0.2–0.5 kg/ha foliar. Decide based on tissue-testing, not guesswork.
When does additional nitrogen stop paying?
Yield gain per 1 kg N decreases as the dose rises. Field-trial averages: up to 120 kg/ha — 18–25 kg grain/kg N; 120–160 kg/ha — 10–15; above 160 kg/ha — 3–7. Wheat sweet spot at 2026 prices is 140–160 kg/ha.
How to read a soil analysis — what do the numbers mean?
Key indicators: humus (chernozem 3.5–5%+), pH (6.0–7.0 optimal for most crops), available phosphorus (P₂O₅, >100 mg/kg is good), exchangeable potassium (K₂O, >150 mg/kg is good), nitrogen (nitrate + ammonium), micronutrients (Zn, B, Mn, S). Values below reference = that element needs fertilisation. Hand the full report to your agronomist for a field plan.
Where can I test soil and how much does it cost?
State labs — Kharkiv Soil Institute, NAAS research centres, oblast stations of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy — 300–500 UAH per sample (basic NPK). Private labs (Agrolab, SGS Ukraine) — 800–2,500 UAH per sample (extended analysis incl. micronutrients). Sweet spot: 1 sample per 50 ha, refresh every 3 years.
How to raise wheat protein to milling grade?
Milling-grade target is 12.5%+ protein. Key levers: (1) sufficient nitrogen (140–160 kg N/ha active); (2) late nitrogen pass — 30–50 kg N/ha at heading (BBCH 51–55); (3) high-protein variety genetics; (4) adequate sulfur (20–30 kg S/ha). Early drought + low nitrogen = low protein.

Crop protection

How do I check if a pesticide is registered in Ukraine?
Check the State Register of Pesticides and Agrochemicals on the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine website. Products not registered are illegal to use, and buying or storing them carries administrative liability.
What is the glyphosate rate for pre-emergent treatment?
For pre-emergent treatment before sowing cereals, maize, and sunflower, the standard glyphosate rate (36% active ingredient) is 2–4 L/ha. On post-harvest stubble with heavy weed load, 4–6 L/ha. Apply 7–14 days before sowing at temperatures above 10°C.
When to apply fungicide on winter wheat?
The first pass is at stem elongation (BBCH 30–32) under high septoria or rust pressure. The second pass is at flag leaf (BBCH 37–39), the most critical stage for head protection. A third pass at flowering is only needed under Fusarium head blight risk.
How do you prevent herbicide resistance in weeds?
Rotate active ingredients across different HRAC mode-of-action groups — avoid using the same herbicide year after year. Apply full label rates, not reduced rates. Plan crop rotation with different crops to remove the weed monoculture niche.
How do you check tank-mix compatibility?
Run a jar-test in a 0.5–1 L glass container before filling the full tank. Add components in this order: water (50%), WG/WP, solutions/UAN, adjuvants, remaining water. Watch for 15 minutes — precipitation, separation, or color change means incompatibility.
Can drones be used for crop spraying in Ukraine?
Yes, with restrictions. Since 2023, Ukraine permits drone-based crop protection spraying in civil airspace outside security zones. Operator registration with the State Aviation Administration, certified equipment, and specific permits for tank-mix products are required.
Which product controls Colorado beetle?
The most effective products against Colorado beetle in Ukraine are Actara (thiamethoxam) at 60 g/ha, Confidor Maxi (imidacloprid) at 70 g/ha, and Decis Profi (deltamethrin) at 40 g/ha. Start treatment when the first larvae appear — under good conditions one pass is enough.
How do you store crop protection products?
In a locked, ventilated room at +5…+25°C, out of direct sun and moisture. Kept apart from food, fertilizers, and fuel. Do not freeze liquid products. An inbound/outbound ledger is required for farms storing more than 10 kg of product.
How do you protect sunflower from alternaria?
Apply at budding (BBCH 51–59) with azoxystrobin + tebuconazole fungicides (Amistar, Custodia, Retengo) at 0.8–1.2 L/ha. Under high disease pressure, a second pass at flowering is warranted. Rotate active ingredients year to year.
How do I know the products aren't counterfeit?
Every vendor on ADAM passes KYC verification with EDRPOU confirmation. Products are sourced through verified supply chains with certificates of origin. Our Vendor Trust Score (0–100) tracks fulfillment quality, and only buyers with completed transactions can leave reviews. If you suspect a counterfeit product, our dispute system with full audit trail protects your claim.
How can I identify a wheat disease from a photo?
Compare with the photo guide: septoria — yellow-brown spots with dark pycnidia; brown rust — rust-coloured pustules releasing spores; yellow rust — yellow-orange linear stripes along leaves; head fusarium — bleaching of spikelets at milk-ripe stage. Alternatively, upload a photo to ADAM's AI Agronomist for automated diagnosis.
When should I spray wheat with fungicide?
First spray: stem-elongation stage (BBCH 31–32) if septoria pressure is high. Second (critical): flag-leaf stage (BBCH 37–39) — protects the upper leaves that generate 60–80% of yield. Third: flowering (BBCH 61–65) for head-fusarium control if rain is forecast.
Which pesticides can be mixed in a tank?
Mixing order: water-soluble → suspension concentrates (SC) → emulsions (EC) → adjuvants. Critical incompatibilities: boron + phosphorus fertilisers → precipitation; sulfonylurea herbicides + acidic fertilisers → decomposition. Always test a 1 L jar mix before filling the main tank.
Seed treatment: which products for which crops?
Wheat — tebuconazole + prochloraz (smut, root rot). Corn — thiamethoxam + metalaxyl (soil pests + downy mildew). Sunflower — fludioxonil + mefenoxam (fomopsis, downy mildew). Soybean — Bradyrhizobium inoculant + fungicide. Always verify registration in the state pesticide register.
When to apply sunflower desiccation?
Optimal: seed moisture 30–35%, when 70–80% of heads are yellow-brown. Too early (>40% moisture) — risk of reduced oil content; too late (<25%) — seed shattering. Window typically 7–10 days. Products: diquat (fast, 3–5 days) or glyphosate (slower, 10–14 days).
Sunn pest: when should I spray?
Economic threshold: 2 adult bugs/m² at tillering–stem-elongation (early control) or 1–2 larvae per head at grain filling (critical — direct quality loss). Untreated crops lose gluten and become unsuitable for milling.
How do I choose a herbicide for sunflower?
Depends on the hybrid system: Classic — pre-emergence prosulfocarb/S-metolachlor + post-emergence dicot herbicide; Clearfield (imazamox) — post-emergence controls most weeds + broomrape; Sulfo (tribenuron-methyl) — post-emergence on broadleaves. Pick the hybrid first, then the system — not the other way around.
Can I spray at 5 m/s wind speed?
The quality-spray ceiling is 3–4 m/s. At 5 m/s drift and uneven coverage become material. Options under stronger wind: night spraying (usually calmer), low-drift nozzles (AI, TT, Lo-Drift), drift-reducing adjuvants. Above 6 m/s — postpone the pass.
Sunflower fomopsis: how to recognize it?
Early symptoms: dark-brown V-shaped lesions on leaf edges; later: dark-grey lesions on stems (especially at nodes). At late stages stems snap and plants lodge. Most vulnerable stages: budding + flowering. Confirmation: cut the stem — dark lesions inside confirm fomopsis.
Pre-emergence vs post-emergence herbicide — which is better?
Pre-emergence (soil-applied) acts before weeds emerge, depends on soil moisture, and gives the crop a clean start. Post-emergence is more reliable under dry conditions and targets visible weeds but has a tight application window. Recommendation: pre-em as base + post-em to correct breakthroughs. Systemically cheaper and more effective.
Mycotoxins: how to prevent them in grain?
Core prevention: (1) flowering-stage fungicide against head fusarium on wheat; (2) harvest below 14% moisture; (3) rapid drying to 13%; (4) clean storage (no old grain residue in the silo); (5) aeration. For corn: early planting, resistant hybrids, avoid ear damage.
Are growth stimulants worth using?
Mostly no, if fundamentals (variety, nutrition, protection) aren't optimised first. Stimulants (amino acids, humates, micronutrient mixes) show +3–8% yield in trials but the effect is inconsistent. Focus on closing gaps in fundamentals first. Stimulants are the last 5–10% of optimisation, not the first 50%.

Seeds

What does FAO mean in maize hybrids?
FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) is the maize maturity index. Higher FAO means a longer period to maturity: FAO 150–200 is early, 200–300 early-mid, 300–400 mid-late, 400+ late. For the Steppe use FAO 280–320; for Polissia use FAO 200–260.
What is Clearfield sunflower?
Clearfield is a BASF technology combining sunflower hybrids with genetic tolerance to the imazamox herbicide (Pulsar) with the herbicide itself. It lets you spray the field at the 2–8 leaf stage of the crop, killing weeds without damaging the sunflower. Clearfield covers about 55% of Ukrainian sunflower acreage.
When should I order seed for the next season?
For spring crops (maize, sunflower, soybeans), October-December of the prior year — producers offer discounts up to 12% for prepayment. For winter crops (wheat, rapeseed), July-August of the current year. January-February carries a shortage risk for top hybrids.
What are the differences between wheat seed reproduction grades?
Pre-base seed comes directly from the original breeding line, 100% genetic purity, the most expensive. Base seed comes after pre-base. First reproduction follows base. Second and third reproductions follow. Ukrainian production seeding typically uses 1st to 3rd reproductions. Each subsequent reproduction is 15–25% cheaper but carries growing genetic drift risk.
What is the optimal sunflower planting density?
For the Steppe and dry Forest-Steppe, 40–50,000 plants/ha. For central Forest-Steppe, 50–60,000 plants/ha. For Polissia and well-watered regions, 60–70,000 plants/ha. Lower density on dry land reduces water competition and boosts thousand-seed weight.
What is the winter wheat sowing rate?
Use 4.0–4.5 million viable seeds/ha in the Steppe, 4.5–5.0 million in the Forest-Steppe, and 5.0–5.5 million in Polissia. In physical weight that's 180–250 kg/ha depending on thousand-seed weight. Row spacing 15 cm; sowing depth 4–6 cm on heavy soils and 6–8 cm on light soils.
Are GMO varieties allowed in Ukraine?
Cultivating GMO crops in Ukraine is officially prohibited by the Biosafety Law. However, importing GMO feed and processed products is permitted with labeling requirements.
Is soybean inoculation mandatory?
Mandatory on fields where soybean is planted for the first time or after a break of more than 3 years. Inoculant (Bradyrhizobium japonicum) increases yield by 8–18% and saves 60–120 kg/ha of nitrogen through atmospheric fixation. On fields with a soybean history, inoculation is recommended but not critical.
How many years between sunflower plantings on the same field?
The scientifically recommended minimum is 7–8 years (NAAS Ukraine, Institute of Oilseed Crops). In practice: Steppe — 3–4 years with broomrape-resistant hybrids and fungicide programs; Forest-Steppe — 4–6 years; Polissia — 4–5 years due to sclerotinia risk. Shortening to 2 years costs 0.3–0.7 t/ha in yield and raises crop-protection spend.
What are the best predecessors for winter wheat?
Best predecessors: clean fallow, legumes (peas, soy), early potato, early grain legumes. Acceptable: corn for silage, winter rapeseed (if harvested early). Poor: sunflower, sugar beet, Sudan grass (deplete soil moisture and shorten water supply).
Corn after corn — how much does it reduce yield?
Depends on zone + management. On chernozem with adequate moisture and proper protection — 3–7% loss in the first repeat year. After 3+ years of monoculture — 10–15% loss + rising western corn rootworm pressure. Recommended: at least 1 year of rotation with soy or rapeseed every 2–3 years.
FAO 300 or FAO 400 hybrid for my oblast?
Polissia + northern Forest-Steppe — FAO 200–300 (short season, autumn frost risk). Central Forest-Steppe — FAO 300–400. Steppe — FAO 400–500 (long enough warm season). For drought-tolerant hybrids you can move up 1 FAO group per zone. Check the Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecast for your region.
Optimal corn planting density — 80 or 85K plants/ha?
Depends on water availability. Dry Steppe — 65–75K plants/ha avoids moisture competition. Forest-Steppe chernozem with adequate moisture — 75–85K/ha. Under irrigation or in Polissia — 85–95K/ha. Above 90K without irrigation risks sharp yield decline.
Which drought-tolerant corn hybrid should I pick for the Steppe?
Look for hybrids labelled Optimum AQUAmax (Pioneer), AGT (Syngenta), or DKC (Bayer) officially positioned as drought-tolerant. FAO 350–450 is the Steppe sweet spot. Verify on 2022–2025 real-world trial data, not brochures.
How to increase wheat yield from 4 to 6 t/ha?
Main levers: (1) correct predecessor + sowing date; (2) split nitrogen top-dressing (60/40 or 70/30); (3) flag-leaf fungicide protection; (4) weed control by tillering; (5) variety matched to zone. The 4.5 t/ha national average vs MHP's 7.7 t/ha record = 50–70% gap — most of it is closable without moving zones.
What is the average wheat yield in Ukraine?
In 2025 — 4.49 t/ha (MinAgro data). Leaders: Khmelnytskyi up to 6.6 t/ha, MHP record 7.7 t/ha. Lowest: Kherson 2.4 t/ha, Donetsk 2.1 t/ha. National-average vs top-quartile gap — 50–70%.
How to reach sunflower oil content above 50%?
Oil content is driven by genetics (hybrid) + seed-fill conditions. Pick high-oil hybrids (Clearfield HO or classic lines with 50%+ potential). Keep moisture stable during fill, avoid heat stress, don't delay desiccation — every extra week on the stalk costs 0.5–1% oil.
Soybean as predecessor — what are the benefits for the next crop?
Soybean fixes 60–120 kg/ha of nitrogen via Bradyrhizobium symbiosis. For the following crop (typically wheat or corn) that means 30–50 kg N/ha savings. Bonus: loosens soil structure, shares no diseases with cereals. Best partner in 4-field Forest-Steppe rotations.
Can I sow rapeseed after sunflower?
Not advised. Both crops share diseases (sclerotinia, alternaria, fomopsis) and rapeseed needs moisture that sunflower has already pulled from 2–3 m soil depth. If unavoidable: minimum 4 years gap + fungicide program + disease-resistant rapeseed varieties.
What are cover crops and is it worth sowing them?
Cover crops (green manures) are plants sown between cash crops to protect soil from erosion, build organic matter, fix nitrogen, and suppress weeds. Popular Ukrainian mixes: rye+vetch, mustard+radish, phacelia. ROI horizon: 3–5 years — but in dry years they can compete with the main crop for moisture.
Sunflower broomrape: does rotation help?
Yes — and rotation is the only systemic strategy. Broomrape seeds stay viable in soil 10–15+ years, so a 3–4-year gap is insufficient. Recommended: 6–8 years gap + resistant hybrids (ALS-resistant, classes E–G). Sulfonylurea herbicides control broomrape in the current season but do not reduce the soil seed bank.
How to assess winter crop condition in spring?
Visual checks: colour (healthy = green; stressed = yellow/purple), stand density (target 350–500 plants/m² before stem elongation), tillering node health (firm, not blackened). If loss is 40%+, replant with a spring crop. Viability test: dig 10 plants, keep them in moisture + warmth 3 days to see regrowth.

Machinery

What tractor do I need for 500 ha?
For a 500 ha grain operation, a 150–180 hp tractor is optimal — enough for primary tillage, sowing, and top-dressing. Examples: John Deere 6155M, Case IH Puma 185, CLAAS Axion 830. For intensive operations with an own combine, go to 200–240 hp (John Deere 6250R, Fendt 724).
Is it better to buy new or used agricultural machinery?
New machinery costs more but comes with a full warranty (24 months/2,000 hours), modern technology, and lower downtime. Used 2018–2021 models are 35–45% cheaper but carry no warranty and 250–500k UAH/year of potential repair costs. Farms above 1,000 ha should go new; smaller should go used.
How many combines do I need for 3,000 ha?
For a 3,000 ha grain operation, two mid-class combines (CLAAS Lexion 6800, John Deere S790) or one premium combine (CLAAS Lexion 8700, John Deere X9) are needed. Average harvest productivity is 25–40 ha/day per combine, so two units guarantee a harvest within 30 working days.
What is the optimal sprayer boom width?
For 500–1,500 ha farms, a 24–28 m boom works. For 1,500–3,000 ha, 28–36 m. For 3,000+ ha, 36–40 m. A wider boom saves passes and fuel but needs level fields. On uneven Polissia soils, 24–28 m is optimal; on flat Steppe chernozems, 36 m or more.
What are leasing terms for agricultural machinery in Ukraine?
Standard Ukrainian leasing: 15–25% down payment, 5–7 year term, 10–14% annual rate in UAH (7–9% for foreign currency contracts). Main lessors are OTP Leasing, Ukrsibleasing, OTP Agro, and PrivatBank Leasing. Official dealers (LNZ Group, BV Broker) run partner programs with concessional terms.
How often should you change oil in a diesel tractor?
The standard interval is 500 engine hours with fully synthetic oil (Shell Rimula R6, Mobil Delvac 1) and an OEM filter. With standard mineral oil, 250 hours. In hard conditions (dust, heat, older engine) shorten by 30%. Check the level daily during operation.
Is it worth installing a GPS autosteer system?
Yes — for farms above 500 ha, GPS autosteer pays back in 1–2 seasons. Savings: 5–10% fuel, 10–15% seed and crop protection thanks to no overlap, up to 20% operator time. The kit costs 120–260k UAH (Trimble CFX-750, John Deere StarFire 6000). Accuracy is 2–5 cm with RTK correction.
Is CVT or PowerShift better?
CVT (Vario, AutoPowr, IVT) delivers stepless speed control without gear shifts, saves 8–12% on fuel, and extends engine life. 15–25% more expensive. PowerShift is reliable multi-gear mechanical, easier to repair, lower price. For modern large farms, CVT; for mid-size and small, PowerShift.
Is it worth installing autosteer on an old MTZ?
Yes, if you cover 500+ ha. Retrofit kits (Trimble, TeeJet, Agrostar) cost $1,800–3,500. Savings: 5–10% on seed, crop protection, fertiliser through reduced overlap + 20–30% less operator fatigue. Payback on 800–1,000 ha — 1.5–2 seasons.
Autosteer ROI — how many years to payback?
On 500 ha — 3–4 seasons; 800–1,000 ha — 1.5–2 seasons; 2,000+ ha — under one season. Savings come from: 5–10% overlap reduction (seed, crop protection, fertiliser), 20–30% less operator fatigue, ability to run at night, accurate rows for mechanical cultivation.
Is it profitable to buy a grain dryer?
Economically justified from 2,000+ tonnes own grain/year. Elevator drying costs 200–400 UAH/tonne depending on moisture removed. On-farm drying: 100–150 UAH/tonne + capital investment 1.5–3M UAH for a 500–1,000 kg/hr dryer. Payback: 3–5 years. Bonus — custom drying service for neighbours.
Spray drone — how much does it save?
DJI Agras T40 covers 50–70 ha/day on a full charge. Savings: 30–40% water (10 L/ha vs 200 L/ha for boom), 15–25% crop-protection chemical (spot-treatment), zero tractor pass. Best use cases: localised pest outbreaks, orchards, wet fields tractors can't reach. ROI on 500 ha: 1.5–2.5 seasons.
Cropio or OneSoil — which is better for 1,000 ha?
Cropio — Ukrainian product, strong local support, ERP integrations, full platform (monitoring + scouting + ERP), $10–15/ha/year. OneSoil — free basic NDVI monitoring, simpler UI, fewer planning features. Recommendation: Cropio for active management, OneSoil as a free first step into satellite monitoring.
How to calibrate a sprayer?
Step 1: measure speed (50 m with a stopwatch). Step 2: measure nozzle output in 1 min (3–5 nozzles for average). Step 3: calculate real rate: (L/min × 600) ÷ (speed km/h × boom width m). Compare to target (e.g. 200 L/ha). If error >5% — adjust pressure or replace worn nozzles.

Spare parts & tires

OEM or aftermarket spare parts: which to choose?
OEM (John Deere, Case IH) costs more, comes with full warranty, and guarantees compatibility. Quality aftermarket (Kramp, Granit, Dinex) is 25–45% cheaper with adequate quality for most items (filters, belts, hoses). For critical components (engine, hydraulics, transmission), stick with OEM. For auxiliary items, aftermarket is justified.
Can I use cheap filters?
No. Cheap filters from unknown manufacturers can have poor filter media that passes contaminants up to 25 microns (OEM spec is 5–10 microns). The result is accelerated hydraulic and engine wear, with repair costs running 10–20× the filter savings. Use OEM or a verified aftermarket brand (Mann, Donaldson, Filtron).
How long does spare part delivery to Ukraine take?
Popular items (filters, belts, hydraulic hoses) — next day from regional dealer warehouses. Standard items (bearings, seals) — 2–5 days. Rare items (electronics, old-model parts) — 10–21 days from Europe. During harvest, priority freight covers emergency parts in 24–48 hours.
Can I find spare parts by photo if I don't know the part number?
Yes. If the part number has worn off, take a photo and upload it to ADAM's AI. The system matches against our structured spare-parts database (filters, bearings, belts, seals, hydraulics, electrical, engine parts, transmission, wear parts, cab/body, cooling). You can also search by machine model (e.g., MTZ-82) and component location.
How do I cross-reference GOST and ISO bearing designations?
Soviet-era machinery uses GOST designations (e.g., 180205); newer imports use ISO (6205-2RS). Often it's the same bearing. ADAM's search understands both standards — enter either designation. A full cross-reference table is available in the bearing catalog.
Can ADAM source parts for Soviet-era combines (Niva, Don-1500)?
Yes. The MTZ-80/82 fleet (~150–200K active units), Niva, and Don-1500 remain widespread. ADAM offers Ukrainian analogs and European alternatives (Jubana/Lithuania, CX/Poland) for models where original Belarusian supply is complicated by sanctions. If the part number has worn off, use photo search.
Chinese bearings vs Polish vs Japanese — what's the quality difference?
Farmers recognize tiers: SKF (Sweden), KOYO (Japan), Timken (USA) — 'expensive but lasts forever.' CX (Poland), Jubana (Lithuania), MANN-FILTER (Germany) — good quality at reasonable price. WIX, Donaldson, HIFI — reliable mid-tier. CPR (China) — for non-critical components. ADAM tags every listing with a quality tier so you choose with your eyes open.

Tires & wheels

What is the correct tractor tire pressure?
For field work, 0.8–1.2 bar (minimizes soil compaction and expands the contact patch). For road transport with a load, 1.8–2.2 bar. For heavy-implement work, 1.4–1.8 bar. Modern VF/IF technology allows lower pressure without losing load capacity.
Which ag tires are best: BKT, Trelleborg, or Mitas?
Trelleborg (Swedish) — premium, lowest pressure VF technology, 30–50% more expensive. Mitas (Czech, now part of Trelleborg) — mid-market, good price/quality balance. BKT (Indian) — budget, 25–35% cheaper, adequate for standard needs. Intensive farms go Trelleborg, mid-farms go Mitas, cost-conscious farms go BKT.

Energy systems

How do you size a generator for a farm?
Add up the total consumption of all critical systems: grain dryers (20–80 kW), cold storage (10–25 kW), pumps (5–15 kW), office and living (3–8 kW). Add 20–25% headroom. A typical 500 ha farm needs 30–50 kW; an agribusiness with an elevator needs 100–250 kW. Diesel generators are more economical than gas in most cases.
Are solar systems profitable for a farm?
Yes, in the south and center of Ukraine with high solar irradiance. A typical 50 kW farm solar system costs 1.8–2.4 million UAH, with a payback of 6–8 years for self-consumption and 8–11 years when selling surplus to the grid (green tariff). Best paired with a diesel generator as backup.
How much diesel does a 50 kW generator consume?
A typical 50 kW diesel generator at 75% load (37.5 kW) consumes 9–11 L/h of diesel. At current prices (54 UAH/L), that's 486–594 UAH per hour. For 10 hours of daily operation, expect about 100 L/day, or 3,000 L/month on a continuous schedule.
Is a UPS needed on a dairy farm?
Yes, for critical systems: milking parlors (30–60 min of continued milking until the generator starts), milk cooling (temperature hold), automated feeders. The UPS covers the gap between grid loss and generator start. Recommended capacity is 5–15 kVA depending on herd size.
Which critical systems need backup power during wartime?
Priority 1: grain dryers (a power loss during drying can cause 50–100k UAH/hour in losses for a typical farm). Priority 2: cold storage and dairy operations. Priority 3: irrigation and watering pumps. Priority 4: office and living. The minimum setup is a 30–50 kW diesel generator with auto-start.
Irrigation after Kakhovka: what options do I have?
Ukraine lost ~250,000 ha of irrigation capacity after the Kakhovka dam destruction. Alternatives: (1) deep wells (expensive, aquifer-depletion risk); (2) rainwater harvesting into reservoirs; (3) drip irrigation with lower water use; (4) switch to drought-tolerant hybrids; (5) minimum tillage for moisture conservation.
Greenhouse heating without gas: alternatives
Alternatives: (1) air-source heat pump — COP 3–4, high CAPEX, low OPEX; (2) wood/pellet pyrolysis boiler — medium CAPEX, needs fuel storage; (3) biomass (straw, corn stalks) — cheap fuel if you have your own, specialised boilers; (4) biogas heat — if the farm already produces it; (5) infrared film heaters — small greenhouses only, high electricity cost.

Fuel & lubricants

Which diesel grade fits modern tractors?
Modern Tier 4 / Stage V tractors (John Deere PowerTech, FPT NEF, Deutz) require only EN 590 EURO-5 diesel with less than 10 ppm sulfur. Using high-sulfur agricultural diesel destroys Common Rail fuel systems and SCR catalysts — repair costs run 180,000–420,000 UAH.
How do you store diesel in winter?
Use winter-grade diesel (Z mark) with a cold filter plugging point down to −20°C. Install tanks underground or insulated. Add anti-waxing additives below −15°C. Drain condensate from the tank bottom monthly — water buildup causes fuel system corrosion.
How often to change engine oil?
For modern diesel tractors, the standard interval is 500 engine hours with synthetic API CK-4 / ACEA E9 oil (Shell Rimula R6, Mobil Delvac 1), or 250 hours with mineral oil. Shorten by 30% in hard conditions (dust, high heat). Check the level daily.
What does ISO VG 46 mean for hydraulic oils?
VG 46 is an ISO 3448 viscosity grade (VG = Viscosity Grade) meaning kinematic viscosity of 46 cSt at 40°C. It is the most common grade for agricultural hydraulic systems in temperate climates. Cold climates use VG 32 (easier to pump); hot climates use VG 68.
How much can bulk diesel procurement save?
Buying diesel by tanker (22–32 tonnes) runs 6–12% below retail station pricing, and direct purchase from the producer avoids VAT intermediary markup. For a 1,000 ha farm with 80 tonnes of annual consumption, savings run 300,000–600,000 UAH/year. On-farm storage also provides stock control under wartime conditions.

About ADAM

What is ADAM?
ADAM is a Ukrainian online marketplace connecting farmers with verified suppliers of agricultural inputs: seeds, fertilizers, crop protection, machinery, spare parts, fuel, energy systems, and livestock equipment. The platform lets you compare offers, send quote requests, and buy at transparent prices.
How much does ADAM cost?
Free for farmers. You can browse the catalog, compare offers, and send quote requests without registration or subscription. The platform earns a small commission from suppliers on successful deals — which keeps pricing transparent with no hidden markups or middlemen.
Where does ADAM deliver?
ADAM delivers to all 24 oblasts of Ukraine and Kyiv. The specific terms, lead times, and cost depend on the supplier and the product category: for popular items in the Forest-Steppe, next-day delivery is available; for other regions, 2–5 days.
What payment methods does ADAM accept?
Bank transfer to the supplier's account (the most popular B2B option), card payment for smaller amounts, and installment for verified clients. For large orders, suppliers often offer 30-day deferred payment. All transactions are official, VAT-inclusive.
How are suppliers verified on ADAM?
Every supplier is verified before being added to the catalog: registration documents (EDRPOU or sole-proprietor), relevant permits and certificates for the category (e.g., precursor storage permits for ammonium nitrate), bank details, and trading history. The platform displays ratings, response times, and order fulfillment metrics.
How do you submit a quote request (RFQ) on ADAM?
Pick a product in the catalog or describe your need through the RFQ form: quantity, delivery date, region, specifications. The request is automatically sent to 3–5 verified suppliers in your region. Quotes arrive within an average of 6–8 hours; you compare and pick the best. Average savings versus traditional channels run 4–8%.
Which languages does ADAM support?
ADAM supports Ukrainian (default) and English. The full interface, catalog, specs, and content are translated by domain experts, without machine translation. The English version is useful for international suppliers and farmers in bilingual regions.
How does ADAM operate during wartime?
ADAM continues to operate across all regions of Ukraine except temporarily occupied territories. For frontline oblasts, suppliers may offer alternative delivery routes, installment plans, and extended flexibility on terms. The platform actively supports Ukrainian farmers through priority terms from partner suppliers.
Is my data protected on ADAM?
Yes. ADAM complies with Ukrainian personal data protection law ('On the Protection of Personal Data'). Your requests, order history, and bank details are stored encrypted and not shared with third parties without your consent. Suppliers only see information relevant to fulfilling the order.
Can I return products on ADAM?
Return policy depends on the specific supplier and product category. For most non-consumer categories (fertilizers, crop protection, seeds), returns are only possible if the product doesn't match the specification or is damaged in delivery. Machinery is covered by the manufacturer warranty. All terms are stated in the contract before the deal is concluded.
How is the Vendor Trust Score calculated?
The Trust Score (0–100) combines four verified metrics: product quality ratings from completed orders, delivery reliability (on-time rate), communication responsiveness, and pricing fairness. Only farmers who completed real transactions can rate vendors — no fake reviews. Scores update after every transaction, rewarding consistently reliable vendors and flagging problems early.
How does escrow payment work? What if the vendor doesn't deliver?
When you accept a quote, your payment goes into escrow via LiqPay. The vendor receives funds only after you confirm delivery and product quality. You have a 48-hour dispute window after delivery. If the vendor fails to deliver, your money is returned automatically. Full chat and order history is logged for dispute resolution.
Is ADAM free for farmers?
Yes, completely free. Farmers pay nothing to register, browse products, create RFQs, or receive quotes. Vendors pay a small commission (≈2.5%) only after a successful transaction. Your procurement costs may actually decrease because multiple vendors compete for your business on each RFQ.
How long does registration take?
Under 5 minutes. Three simple steps: create your account (email + password), tell us about your farm (name, area in hectares, region), and select your main crops and product interests. No KYC documents required to start browsing and requesting quotes. You can add more details (field GPS coordinates, equipment, delivery addresses) later as you use the platform.
How do I create a Request for Quote (RFQ)?
Browse our catalog, find your product, and click 'Request Quote.' Specify quantity, delivery location (GPS coordinates work for farms without addresses), and preferred delivery date. Multiple verified vendors will compete to offer you the best price. Expect your first quotes within 4 hours. The entire process takes under 3 minutes from your phone.
How are prices determined? Will I get the best price?
Prices come directly from vendors competing for your business. When you submit an RFQ, multiple suppliers bid against each other. You see min/avg/max prices across all offers and can compare delivery terms, payment options, and vendor ratings side by side. Competition drives prices down — most farmers report 5–15% savings vs. their previous single-dealer relationships.
Can I pay after harvest?
Yes. Qualifying farms can access pay-after-harvest terms through our financing partners. Verification requires basic KYC (farm documents upload). Available payment windows align with crop cycles — different terms for winter wheat (July harvest), sunflower (September), corn (October). Standard options also include Net-30 invoicing and installment plans for larger orders.
What payment methods are supported?
LiqPay (cards via PrivatBank and other Ukrainian banks), direct bank transfer (IBAN), and invoice-based payments for businesses. Escrow is the default for buyer protection. Qualifying farms can unlock Net-15 and Net-30 credit terms after KYC verification. All payments are in Ukrainian hryvnia (₴).
What is the AI Agronomist and how does it work?
ADAM's AI Agronomist helps you find the right product faster. Describe your need in natural language ('herbicide for sunflowers on chernozem soil') and get matched results. Upload a photo of crop symptoms for diagnosis. Get seasonal reminders ('Order NPK by March 15 for optimal pricing'). The AI is trained on Ukrainian agronomic data and recommends based on your farm profile — not vendor payments.
Is the AI Russian-developed? Can I trust it?
ADAM's AI is powered by Anthropic's Claude (American company, San Francisco). It is NOT Russian technology. The AI is trained with Ukrainian agronomic knowledge and operates entirely in Ukrainian. It does not favor any vendor — recommendations are based solely on your farm profile, crop needs, and product specifications. All AI interactions are private.
Can AI replace my agronomist?
No. The AI Agronomist is an assistant, not a replacement. It quickly matches products by specification, diagnoses symptoms from photos, reminds you of seasonal windows, and finds alternatives when products are out of stock. But complex decisions (rotation strategy, field visits, soil analysis) stay with your agronomist. AI saves hours of routine search — your agronomist handles what requires experience.
Does the AI work without internet in the field?
Currently the AI Agronomist requires internet for real-time product search and pricing. For poor-coverage areas we're exploring SMS-based RFQ submission and low-data modes. Offline photo diagnosis (store → process when online) is on our 2027 roadmap.
What products does ADAM cover?
11 categories covering the full farm-input spectrum: fertilizers, seeds, crop protection (pesticides/herbicides/fungicides), fuel & lubricants, machinery, spare parts, tires & wheels, supplies, services, livestock products, and energy systems. Within these: 93 subcategories, 448 product types, 10,000+ listings from 100+ verified vendors across all 25 oblasts of Ukraine.
Do you deliver to all oblasts, including frontline areas?
ADAM covers all 25 oblasts of Ukraine. Delivery availability to specific locations depends on individual vendors and current security conditions. For Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Mykolaiv oblasts, our system shows real-time vendor availability and estimated delivery windows. Many vendors serve these regions through adapted logistics routes. We're continuously expanding coverage.
What if I need delivery to a location without a street address?
Many Ukrainian farms have no formal postal address. ADAM supports GPS-coordinate delivery with a precise map pin for drivers. Enter coordinates when creating an RFQ — vendors see the delivery point and plan the route. Save coordinates in your profile for future orders.
Is my farm data shared with vendors or third parties?
Your farm data belongs to you. Vendors see only the information you include in an RFQ (product, quantity, delivery location). They do NOT see your total farm area, other purchases, crop rotation plans, or financial data. ADAM does not sell data to Bayer, Syngenta, government agencies, or anyone else. AI recommendations use your data locally to serve YOU, not vendors.
Is there a mobile app for iOS/Android?
ADAM is built mobile-first as a Progressive Web App — works in any smartphone browser with no app-store download. Native iOS/Android apps are on our 2027 roadmap. The same account works across all devices.
Can I get SMS notifications for order updates?
SMS notifications for key order events (accepted, shipped, delivered) are planned for Q3 2026 — aimed at farmers without reliable mobile data. For now, notifications arrive via the app and email.
Can I combine my order with my neighbor's for a volume discount?
Joint orders ('order with neighbors') are planned for late 2026. The flow is simple: create an RFQ → share the link via Viber/Telegram → neighbors join with their quantities → combined volume automatically unlocks wholesale pricing. Each farmer pays independently via their own escrow.
Is there a phone number I can call for support?
For now, support is available via in-app chat and email — we respond within 2 hours during business hours. A phone line is piloting in H2 2026.
What is the wheat production cost per hectare in 2026?
Per the Institute of Agrarian Economics — about 6,377 UAH/tonne (2025 data). At the 4.5 t/ha average — roughly 28,700 UAH/ha. Key line items: seeds, fertilisers, crop protection, fuel, rent, labour, depreciation. 2026 costs may rise 5–12% per Telegraf.com.ua expert forecasts.
Sunflower or corn — which is more profitable in 2026?
Depends on zone. Sunflower — $763–942/ha cost, up to $985/ha profit in western oblasts. Corn — $847–1,408/ha cost, higher yield potential (8–10 t/ha in the west). Sunflower is less risky in a dry year, corn more profitable under normal rainfall. Calculate by zone × your yield.
How to calculate break-even yield by crop?
Formula: break-even yield (t/ha) = total cost per hectare ÷ expected selling price per tonne. For wheat 2026 at 28,700 UAH/ha cost and 6,400 UAH/t price — 4.48 t/ha. If your forecast yield is below that, the crop isn't worth sowing at current prices.
Why does my neighbor get 6 t/ha wheat and I get 4?
Most common reasons (ranked by impact): (1) zone-matched variety; (2) split nitrogen informed by soil-test; (3) flag-leaf fungicide at the right growth stage; (4) weed control by tillering; (5) sowing date and rate. Benchmark these 5 factors against your neighbour — usually 2–3 diverge.
How much does land rent cost per hectare in Poltava oblast?
In 2025–2026 land rent ranges 5,000–12,000 UAH/ha per year depending on soil quality, road access, water availability. Central Poltava averages 7,000–9,000 UAH/ha. Rates outside premium zones are lower. Contract terms matter too: 7-year vs 1-year lease, payment in kind (grain) vs hryvnia, indexation clauses.
What is a tractor operator's wage in 2026?
Seasonally: 18,000–35,000 UAH/month depending on equipment and experience. An experienced JD/CLAAS operator earns 30,000–45,000 UAH + bonuses. MTZ operators — 18,000–25,000. Large farms add season bonuses (yield-based), housing, fuel. Post-mobilisation labour shortage lifted rates 20–30% vs 2023.
Crop insurance — what options exist in Ukraine?
Main providers: AXA Ukraine, UNIQA, Universalna, ORANTA. Products: (1) named-peril (hail, fire, winterkill) — 1.5–3% of sum insured; (2) weather-index — 3–5%; (3) multi-peril coverage — 5–8%. Government subsidises up to 70% of the premium for producers using the 'Available Credit 5-7-9' programme.
How to build a farm season budget?
Structure: (1) fixed — rent, depreciation, insurance, salaries; (2) variable — seeds, fertilisers, crop protection, fuel, seasonal labour; (3) marketing + logistics — storage, drying, transport; (4) financial — credit, leasing interest. Plan 3 scenarios: base, pessimistic, optimistic. Reserve 10% for contingencies.
Organic certification — how much does it cost?
Baseline certification cycle in Ukraine: 60,000–150,000 UAH one-time + 30,000–80,000 UAH annual inspection fee. Transition period: 2 years (lower yields without synthetic crop protection + fertiliser). Accredited bodies: Organic Standard, Control Union, Ecocert. For EU export you need EU 2018/848 certification.
Phytosanitary certificate for export: how do I obtain one?
Apply to Держпродспоживслужба (State Service for Food Safety) 7–14 days before export. Required documents: contract with buyer, declaration of conformity, product samples for laboratory analysis. Cost: 500–2,500 UAH per certificate + lab fees. For EU export — mandatory checks for quarantine pests + pesticide MRLs. Validity: 14 days.
Where can I find an agronomist for an 800-ha farm?
Options: (1) in-house agronomist — 25,000–50,000 UAH/month, enough for 500–1,500 ha; (2) contract consultant from an ag-company (Syngenta, Corteva, local) — 20,000–40,000 UAH/season, 4–6 visits; (3) remote agronomist via platform (e.g., ADAM AI Agronomist) — free up to a usage limit. Listings: robota.ua, work.ua, agrojob.com.ua, agronomist Telegram chats.
How to retain a tractor operator: wages + conditions 2026
Post-mobilisation labour shortage made operators a scarce resource. Competitive 2026 package: (1) 25,000–40,000 UAH base + 15–30% season bonus; (2) housing or housing allowance; (3) fuel for personal vehicle; (4) legal employment + insurance; (5) training on new equipment (JD/CLAAS). Key: long-term relationships — 5+ years retention is cheaper than annual search.
