Full explanation
Typical rates in Ukraine: winter wheat 180–250 kg/ha, winter barley 170–220 kg/ha, spring barley 170–200 kg/ha, oat 150–200 kg/ha, corn 75–95 thousand seeds/ha (20–25 kg/ha for FAO 280–350), sunflower 50–75 thousand seeds/ha, rapeseed 3–6 kg/ha (500–800 thousand seeds/ha), soybean 450–650 thousand seeds/ha (120–180 kg/ha), sugar beet 130 thousand/ha (1.2–1.5 seed units/ha). Rate increases: late sowing (compensate for short tillering), heavy soil (lower seedling survival), direct drilling (no-till with residues), high weed pressure, low seed germination. Rate decreases: early sowing, light soils, high-quality primed seed, optimal moisture. Trade-off: excess rate — wasted spend + lodging + fungal disease in dense canopy; insufficient — thin stand + weeds + yield loss.
