About this product
Betagard — a systemic post-emergence herbicide produced by DEFENDA in the form of an emulsifiable concentrate. It combines three active substances — phenmedipham (91 g/l), desmedipham (71 g/l) and ethofumesate (112 g/l) from the phenylcarbamate and benzofuran groups. The product destroys a broad spectrum of annual dicotyledonous weeds, in particular hard-to-control ones, as well as some grass weeds in sugar beet crops. Acting through the leaves and the soil, it is applied to growing weeds in consecutive treatments before row closure; the first signs of action appear after 2-7 days.

Active ingredients
Combined foliar and soil activity. Phenmedipham and desmedipham are photosystem II inhibitors that concentrate in weed chloroplasts and block photosynthesis; ethofumesate, a benzofuran seedling-growth inhibitor, is absorbed by roots and germinating coleoptiles and disrupts lipid synthesis and wax-layer formation. Together they cause irreversible loss of photosynthesis, protein and lipid metabolism, and cell division in susceptible weeds.
