Term

Roundup Ready

Also known as: RR crops, glyphosate-tolerant

Full explanation

First launched by Monsanto in 1996 (soy), later maize, rapeseed, cotton. Globally ~95% of soy planted in the US, Brazil, Argentina is Roundup Ready. Ukraine's Law 1103-IV bans commercial GMO cultivation. In 2025 the SFSS confirmed that 2–5% of Ukraine's soy exports to the EU are rejected due to GM contamination (RR traces in organic and conventional soy). Contamination sources: (1) contraband seed from Argentina via Poland, (2) shared harvest equipment. EU exporters must PCR-test for GM markers GT73, RRS, Mon87701 before shipment.
