Full explanation
MFWD is the standard 4WD type in modern tractors, where the front axle with smaller wheels is mechanically driven by a propshaft. MFWD's advantage is better traction on heavy soils and less wheel slip, which matters especially during plowing and implement work. The alternative is 'equal-wheel' 4WD (Case IH Quadtrac, Challenger), where all four wheels are the same size — used for very high power above 480 hp. Most 100–400 hp Ukrainian tractors are MFWD.
