Hybrid

Also known as: F1 hybrid

Full explanation

In Ukraine, hybrid seed is used for: corn (100% of commercial plantings), sunflower (100%), sugar beet (100%), rapeseed (70–90%), greenhouse vegetables. Self-pollinating crops with self-saved seed potential: wheat, barley, soybean (they use varieties, not hybrids). Hybrid producers in Ukraine via local offices or production: Corteva Agriscience (Pioneer brand), Syngenta, Bayer (Dekalb), Limagrain, KWS, MAS Seeds, Euralis, AgriGold. Ukrainian breeding sector: Institute of Grain Crops NAAS (Dnipro), Institute of Oilseed Crops NAAS (Zaporizhzhia), Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute (Odesa) — competes in the mid-price 'public hybrid' segment. April 2026 [VERIFY]: corn hybrid unit — UAH 2 200–4 500 (80 000 seeds), sunflower — UAH 2 500–5 500 (150 000 seeds). Trade-off: hybrid seed is 3–8× more expensive than variety, but delivers +20–40% yield — ROI is always positive.
