Term

Tier 4 / Stage V

Also known as: emission tier

Full explanation

Stage V added two key complications over Stage IV: (1) a PN (particle number) requirement — not just mass, but the count of particles <23 nm, requiring high-quality DPF; (2) broader power range (19–56 kW now included). End-of-Life equipment — Stage IIIA/IIIB without DPF/SCR — is now only for third-country internal markets. Ukraine has no domestic emission standard for tractors, but imports from the EU automatically carry Stage V (under EU Regulation 2016/1628). For agricultural exports to the EU via the DCFTA from 29.10.2025 and especially CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, in force from 2026), Stage V becomes the de-facto standard of Ukrainian farming going forward. Stage V tractors cost 8–15% more than Stage IIIB due to more complex DPF+SCR+EGR. Popular Stage V brands in Ukraine: John Deere 6M/6R, Case IH Maxxum, New Holland T6/T7, CLAAS Arion/Axion, Fendt 700/900, Massey Ferguson 6S/7S.
