Term

Pelleted seed

Also known as: coated seed

Full explanation

In Ukraine: sugar beet — 100% pelleted (KWS, Maribo, Lion Seeds, MariBo), one seed unit = 100 000 pelleted seeds; carrot, lettuce, onion — mostly pelleted for greenhouse production. Pellet components: core (clay, chalk, lignosulfonate), fungicide (hymexazole, thiram), stimulant (humate, B), dye marker (avoids re-sowing). Size: pellet diameter 3.5–4.75 mm (sugar beet), 2.5–3.5 mm (carrot). Sowing impact: pneumatic planter (Kuhn, MaterMacc, Monosem, Horsch Maestro, MF 9800) singulates 99%+ accurately, removing thinning. April 2026 [VERIFY]: sugar beet EUR 45–70/seed unit (100 000 seeds per 1 ha at 18 cm × 44 cm), carrot UAH 280–520/100 000 seeds. Trade-off: pelleted is 5–15× more expensive than bare seed, but precision plant, <1% gaps, no hand thinning — high ROI in high-value crops.
