Term

Biostimulant

Also known as: plant biostimulant, PB

Full explanation

Main biostimulant categories: humates (humic/fulvic acids from lignite, peat, composts), amino acids (enzymatic protein hydrolysates from animal or plant origin), seaweed extracts (Ecklonia maxima, Ascophyllum nodosum), mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus, Trichoderma), PGPR bacteria (Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Bacillus). Effect: improved nutrient uptake (especially P, Zn, Fe), stress tolerance (drought, frost, chemical load), root activity. Rates: 0.5–3 L/ha at 3–5 leaf stage and 14 days later. April 2026 price: UAH 400–1 200/L (wide range by composition) [VERIFY]. Registration required: State Register of Pesticides and Agrochemicals (Ministry of Economy). Trade-off: effect not guaranteed — depends on stress level. On ideal chernozems without stress, payback is zero; under stress (drought, herbicide injury) may deliver +5–10% yield. Does not replace NPK.
