Full explanation
Optimum slip 8–15% is the maximum-traction-efficiency zone. Below 5% — tractor isn't using its traction potential; above 20% — wasted fuel, rapid tire wear, soil structure damage. Soviet-era MTZ tractors traditionally suffer high slip (25–40%) under deep ploughing. Modern slip controllers (Fendt iD, JD iTEC Pro, Case AFS, NH IntelliCruise): (1) lift the plough 2–5 cm when slip exceeds limit; (2) upshift the CVT to reduce pull; (3) engage diff lock. A 300 HP tractor saves 8–15% fuel in a ploughing season from slip control. In Ukraine, slip controllers are standard on JD 6R/7R/8R, Fendt 700/900/1000, Case Puma/Magnum, NH T7+.
