Term

Polyhalite

Also known as: Polysulphate

Full explanation

Mined at Boulby in Yorkshire (the only deposit in Europe). Imported into Ukraine via ICL Ukraine since 2019. Advantages: chlorine-free (suited to chlorine-sensitive crops — potato, tobacco, vineyards), slow-release K and Mg (2–3 months — reduces leaching risk), immediately-available sulfate-S, calcium as prolonged-release. Especially effective for rapeseed (high S + K demand), sugar beet (K + Mg), vineyards (no chlorine), potato (no chlorine). Rate 200–400 kg/ha depending on crop. April 2026 price: UAH 18 000–22 000/t [VERIFY] — more expensive than KCl per kg K₂O, but wins on crops needing all four nutrients simultaneously. Trade-off: ideal for complex recipes where K+Mg+S+Ca are all needed; for simple tasks (just add K) economically unjustified — better to use KCl + MgSO₄ separately.
