Full explanation
Hectare (ha) is the standard area unit in agriculture. Ukraine's total arable land is about 33 million hectares, placing the country second in Europe after Russia and seventh in the world. For scale: a typical Ukrainian farm is 300–3,000 ha, while an agribusiness is 10,000–700,000 ha. Standard figures: 1 ha of winter wheat yields 4.5–7 tonnes of grain, 1 ha of sunflower 2.5–3.8 tonnes, 1 ha of maize 7–12 tonnes.
