Term

Baler (round/square)

Also known as: round baler, square baler

Full explanation

Round balers are more common in Ukraine's small and mid-size sector: simple, cheaper (UAH 700k–1.8M [VERIFY] new), easier to store in the field. Brands: McHale (F5500, V6 series), Krone Comprima, JD 9-series, Claas Rollant, Vicon, Metal-Fach. Chamber: fixed or variable. Square (big square) balers — premium for large farms (Krone BiG Pack 1290, JD L340M/L1534, Claas Quadrant, NH BB). Advantages: high density; stable shape for stack storage; throughput 50–80 bales/hr. Drawbacks: very costly (UAH 4.5M–9M [VERIFY]); heavy bales — need a loader. Baleage (wrapped bales): baler-wrapper combos (Tube-Line, Goweil G-1-F). In Ukraine, wrapped baleage is a growing trend in dairy. Trade-off: for 100–300 cows — round baler; for 1,000+ cattle or commercial enterprises — big square.
