About the brand
Limagrain was founded in 1965 in the Limagne region of central France as a cooperative of local farmers to breed and produce quality seeds. Unlike corporate competitors (Bayer, Corteva, Syngenta), Limagrain remains a farmer-owned cooperative — making it the 4th-largest seed player in the world and the largest in Europe by revenue (above €3.5 billion per year). The cooperative structure means profit is reinvested into R&D (about 15% of revenue annually) instead of being distributed as dividends. Key Limagrain brands: LG (Limagrain, the primary field-crop brand), Vilmorin (vegetables), Mikado-Kyowa (Japan, rice and forage), Hazera (Israeli tomato and cucumber producer). In field crops, Limagrain is known for maize hybrids (strong genetics for dry climates), sunflower (LG5542 and LG5555 — 2020s best-sellers), winter wheat (LG Aberato, LG Wolfpack), and rapeseed (LG Architect). The company runs 90 breeding stations in 24 countries with over 2,000 breeders.

Presence in Ukraine
Limagrain has been present in Ukraine since 2001 through the Limagrain Ukraine subsidiary in Kyiv and a breeding station in Kirovohrad Oblast. In Ukraine, Limagrain sells mostly under the LG brand through a network of 40+ official distributors. Its strongest position is in sunflower: the LG5542 and LG5555 hybrids entered the top 5 most-planted hybrids in Ukraine by area in 2024–2025. LG5542 is known for high oil content (52–54%) and resistance to the main sunflower diseases (broomrape, rust); LG5555 is a Clearfield hybrid resistant to the Pulsar herbicide. In winter wheat, LG Aberato and LG Wolfpack compete with German and Austrian varieties in Western Ukraine. Limagrain's total share of the Ukrainian seed market is around 14%, making it top 3 after Pioneer and Dekalb. On ADAM in April 2026, LG products are quoted by 3–5 distributors with an average response time of 7.9 hours. The highest-demand window is January-February, when farmers lock in seed for spring planting.
