About the brand
Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) was founded in 1946 to rebuild post-war Soviet agriculture. Over 80 years it has produced over 3.5 million tractors — the largest figure in the world among tractor producers. The flagship Belarus 82.1 (82 hp, 4×4, manual transmission) became the standard farm tractor in all post-Soviet countries. During the USSR era and later, MTZ held 70-80% of the market across all Soviet republics. Today the factory exports to 60+ countries. Key advantages: the cheapest equipment in the 70-180 hp class (a new 82.1 costs 800,000-1,100,000 UAH vs 3.5+ million for a Western equivalent), ease of repair by local mechanics, limitless spare parts. Downsides: outdated engines (Stage II or III, not Tier 4/Stage V), low operator comfort, limited warranty and service. The 2022 sanctions risk substantially affected imports.

Presence in Ukraine
MTZ historically dominated the Ukrainian small and mid-farm market (up to 300 ha) through the 82.1 model — estimates place over 300,000 MTZ-82 units of various vintages in Ukrainian agriculture. Since 2022, imports of new Minsk factory product into Ukraine have been restricted due to sanctions and security concerns; new models are not physically shipped. Instead, the secondary market runs actively — 2010-2020 used MTZ runs 280,000-650,000 UAH depending on condition. Spare parts are imported through third countries (Poland, Lithuania) or produced by Ukrainian workshops. KhTZ (Kharkiv Tractor Plant) and the new Ukrainian brand Phantom are trying to fill the gap with domestic alternatives to T-150 and new models, but production volumes remain limited. On ADAM in April 2026, MTZ spare parts are quoted by 8-12 distributors — the widest selection of any machinery brand thanks to the large installed base. New MTZ is not sold — only used and parts.
