About the brand
Borealis AG was founded in 1994 through the merger of petrochemical and agrochemical assets from Austria's OMV, Norway's Statoil, and Finland's Neste. Today Borealis is one of the largest chemical companies in Central Europe with revenue above €10 billion and operations in 120 countries. The agrochemical arm, Borealis Agrolinz Melamine (BLM), focuses on high-quality nitrogen fertilizers and melamine. The Linz production site in Austria makes about 2.5 million tonnes of nitrogen fertilizer per year, 60% of which is exported to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Borealis's strength is technologically complex value-added products: stabilized ammonium sulfate nitrate (Sulphammo, trademarked as Coppermaster), calcium ammonium nitrate (NAC), and LINZER NPK compounds with micronutrients. Since 2020, Borealis has been owned by ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi state petrochemical corporation, which gave the company a stable financial base for decarbonization investments. Borealis is actively investing in 'green ammonia' using electric heating instead of natural gas.

Presence in Ukraine
Borealis has been active in Ukraine since 2008 through a partnership with national importer AGT Trading, which brings product from the Austrian Linz plant via the western border crossing in Lviv Oblast. The strongest presence is in Western Ukraine (Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts) and the Western Forest-Steppe (Vinnytsia, Cherkasy). The main reason is close logistics: delivery from Linz to Lviv takes 2–3 days by truck, making the delivered price competitive with Ukrainian production. Borealis's flagship position in Ukraine is NAC (calcium ammonium nitrate) with 27% nitrogen and 12% calcium oxide, popular on the acidic soils of Polissia and the Carpathians thanks to the double effect (nitrogen top-dressing + neutralization). Sulphammo (stabilized ammonium sulfate nitrate) is a niche premium product for sulfur-deficient fields. On ADAM in April 2026, Borealis is quoted by 2–3 distributors with an average response time of 8.5 hours. Pricing runs 5–10% above Ukrainian alternatives but is offset by better granulometry and active ingredient stability.
