Straw walker (Claas Tucano/Mega, Case IH 2388, JD 1450/1550): advantages — gentle separation, straw stays unbroken; lower fuel use; simpler construction. Drawbacks: limited throughput; worse separation on slopes; slower. Rotor / Axial Flow (Case IH 9240/10250, JD S/T/X-series, NH CR/CX): advantages — high throughput (+25–40%), stability on slopes, effective on difficult crops. Drawbacks: straw shredded into short pieces, unfit for baling; higher fuel use; expensive parts (rotor — UAH 800k–1.5M for replacement). Hybrid (Claas APS + Lexion 7000/8000): balanced. In Ukraine, selection depends on: livestock type, leading crop, terrain. Claas Lexion hybrid is the best compromise for 500–5,000 ha farms.
